Hello, everybody! Welcome back for another video. My name is Brandon, and I have a YouTube channel called Turf Culture. I also own a lawn care business called Premium Turf. On my DIY lawn care channel, I share a lot of tips to help you achieve a better lawn, along with equipment reviews. Today, we'll be looking at some Echo trimmers.
In front of me is the SRM 225 straight shaft trimmer. I've had this for seven years, and it hasn't let me down. I only had to change the carb and fuel filter once, and it fires up every time, usually within three or four pulls. This trimmer is excellent, and I'm sold on Echo equipment because of my positive experience with it. I particularly love the speed feed head that comes with it – easy to load, and if you run out of line, just tap the trimmer on the ground, and it will feed more line for you.
This is a great trimmer, especially for homeowners. You can find these at Home Depot or any Echo dealer, and they are reasonably priced. The SRM 225 comes with a 21cc engine. However, it has a straight shaft trimmer that won't accept any attachments. So, let's talk about a different trimmer for this video.
As part of this demonstration and review, I want you to know that I am in the Echo UAG (User Advisory Group). The Echo PAS 225, part of the Pro Attachment Series, was provided to me for free by Echo in exchange for an unbiased review. This trimmer has the same 21cc powerhead, but it allows you to use different attachments.
The attachment I have is the edger attachment, which I use frequently, especially at the beginning of the season to establish a nice edge along my sidewalks and driveways. Echo trimmers have been reliable for me, and I wanted another 21cc powerhead that could use different attachments in my lawn. You can easily switch these out within a minute, whether you're a professional using them in the field or a homeowner.
Operating them is straightforward. Ensure you use the proper fuel ratio mixture (50:1 oil to gas ratio with two-cycle oil). The unit comes with two-cycle oil to get you started. Just mix it in one gallon of water before putting it in the gas tank. To start, move the stop-start button to start, turn the choke to the cold start, and prime it about six or seven times. Once started, adding attachments is simple – unscrew the wing nut, pull the safety pin, and attach. To reattach, line up the attachment correctly, listen for the click, and tighten the wing nut.
When using this equipment, it provides a clean edge along sidewalks, especially useful after the winter buildup of dirt and debris. I can switch to the string trimmer attachment for other purposes. Having both options with just one powerhead is a big win. I've used this PAS system for three or four times on my lawn, and as a long-time user of Echo equipment, I can give it a positive review. The quality, craftsmanship, and durability are impressive.
Even for a pro user or a homeowner looking to upgrade from a trimmer that won't take attachments, the Echo PAS 225 with the 21cc powerhead is a good model to consider.
Now, let's talk about one thing working against it. Echo trimmers are gas trimmers, and some areas are moving away from gas equipment. For users who prefer battery equipment, the Echo PAS might not be suitable. However, Echo does have battery-powered options with the Pro Attachment Series.
With my participation in the Echo UAG, I'll have the opportunity to bring you more reviews on products and give you my unbiased opinion. Thank you for stopping by for another video.
